Feeler: Giles AAZ pump, K14, PPerformance downpipe.....
« on: January 19, 2009, 01:15:34 am »
My Passat's done, too many electrical issues and the second shock tower has rusted apart.  Still driveable, just not for long or far.

So I'm debating whether or not to take it to the scrap yard or to part it out.  Preference given to buyers in GVRD so I don't have to mess with shipping.  If you're interested let me know, if it's worth my while (i.e. better than the $1000 I'll get from the Scrap-It program) I'll let the whole thing go as a package.

1993 Passat, 260,000kms.

1.9 AAZ Giles pump, "super" tune, converted from umwelt.  2 years since rebuild.

1.6 injectors and lines, due for rebuild.

K14, manifold & oil line.  I'm no expert but seems ok, spins free, no play.

Passenger Performance 2.5" downpipe, ceramic chromed.

Full 2.5" exhaust w/straight through Magnaflow muffler, test pipe & diesel cat (great for Aircare, test pipe replaces cat in 10 minutes)

Head, rebuilt, had previously contacted pistons.

New set of Monroe Sensatracs last year all around.

Rubber 50% on scratched alloy rims.

I'm told the Passat had a more sturdy transmission than the Golf/Jettas.  Tranny run on Redline for the last 6 years, changed a couple of times to flush out the original "lifetime" stuff.

just out of curiosity did you run the 1.9 pump and 1.9 head with the 1.6 injectors and lines with no modifications needed?

The 1.9 umwelt AAZ's came with the single stage (1.6) injector bodies and lines stock.  No modifications needed.  The 1.9 injectors are a bit quieter.  I didn't see any performance gains with the same GTD nozzles in either injector type.

I upgraded to the 1.9 bodies but I'll be sticking those in my Golf since they've got a fresh rebuild.

yea... the crank, pistons, rods, etc are also worth something... vacuum pump, lol... oil filter flange, and all bracketry.

if you strip the motor, you could get some decent money for all the bits.  would be cool if they let you do that.

It's time and money, both my wife and I are in school and I'm working full time.  That and my strata and I have a nervous detente with my doing so much mechanical work in my carport (technically not allowed), I don't want to push my luck having a carcass being picked apart for a week.

Crank was pinned to workaround the bad keyway (I posted up on that a few years ago) that's why I'm not offering the whole engine.  I don't want the bad karma from selling something like that when I have no idea how long it'll last.

Ok, it looks like I'll get more for parting it than driving it to the scrapyard.

I've got one local considering taking the whole thing as a package, if that doesn't pan out I'll post a for sale thread with pics.
