i've just got a 1996 seat toledo which has an AAZ in it to use as a doner for the engine, but after looking at the diesel pump and comparing it with the one on my SB i'm a bit confused. on the SB pump theres only one wire coming from it which goes off to a live. although on the AAZ there are four wires coming from it, 2 come from where the one wire normally goes although it has some kind of cover over it, and 2 from the center of the four fuel pipes (theres just a nut there on the SB).
heres a pic of what i'm on about...
other than that the pump looks just the same as my 1.6 one :?

Its the equivelent of the needle lift sensor on a TDI, it measures when injection commences and dicks about with the pump timing via the solenoid on the bottom of the pump.
It is basically semi electronic control.

Practically yes, ideally no.
I have run them without, they work, but it's there for a reason.
The control unit is connected to a vehicle speed sensor as well as loads of other things.
I have fitted them in T3's and snipped with wires back when I have had no option but most people find another AAZ pump without all the electrical gubbins and fit that instead.
maybe have a word with TinTin or Giles and see what they suggest.
