Fuel coming from LDA vent, is this normal?
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:07:06 pm »
I just finally got the chance to change the NA pump to the Turbo pump. I changed the distributor head seal and the ones at the back (cold start).
Set the timming to 1.05mm, using 155bar injectors, and that old school spearco turbo setup. It starts and runs fine but when looking under the hood after a hard run I see fuel at the LDA vent and it sprays all over my clean engine and new hoses. So I pulled the top off to check where the boost pin was at and to diag. the fuel leak, there was fuel in the top section of the LDA. Is this normal or not.
I tried to do a search for such problems but no sutch luck. I know I've seen something about it, just can't find it.
Anyone know whats going on? Is it another seal?
 Thanks, Josh

Thanks Libby, I've never done that one before either.
I've got all the seals in the kit, but which one.

Is there also some place here to find the procedure for that one.

Yeah, search using libbybapa's name.
He explains how to press the shaft through and maybe upgrade with bolts if yours doesn't have them.

Take the pump LDA apart and compare the seals. Keep in mind the old one will most likely be a little smaller than the new.

I see the LDA seal in your bag, it is of green color in the center behind the copper washer....  anyway, It's the smallest green o-ring in your bag.

Ok, I think I've found what and where your talking about.

And I think that I have the screw type plugs for accessing the rod?

Also, is this another access for removing the hex allen key to replace the seal.

Pics of seal replacement.

List of peices dissasembled in order.

Comparison of new and old seal on shaft.

Placement of new seal.

Assembly is opposite.
Let me know what you think?

Looks good to me aside from all the grit on the out side of the pump.

Sure would suck to get that in the pump and ruin everything down stream.

Yes! Be very careful to keep everything really really clean. Injection shops are like an operating room, operating suits, fancy air cleaning system and so on.
