1.9 1Y NA Govenor modification
« on: March 29, 2005, 09:32:06 pm »
I have been reading about the govenor "mods" that some people have tried.
I stayed late at work tonight and took apart an old 1.6L NA injection pump to have a look-see.

I searched the forums and found that some people shim the main spring and one person completely
 removed both springs.
see photos below.

Am I wrong here.. but with both springs gone.. so is the govenor?

I made the same piece as above with the plastic hose and then took it apart.  I took the top of of my 1.9
pump and basically streched the longer of the 2 springs by pulling on it hard then added some more
shims to compress it more..

then put it all back together :)

I seem to notice more mid range torque.. and a DECENT more mid range smoke.
( guess that is due to the govenor not pulling the fueling out till later)

I am going to play with the main fueling screw tomorrow and turn it down a bit.

should I do something else?
thanks

hey,

sounds good. but if you decide to use fuel pipe, make sure that it is rated to be used with diesel, or it might be eaten by the fuel in the pump and ruin your pump. other then that it seems alright, except you might have wrecked the stuctural integrety of the spring by streching it, and over time it might soften up or even break. i doubt that would happen but its something to watch.

good luck
