Over or under sized crankshaft thrust washer

New to the forum

This is FYI from current experience with rebuild of an MF block

Read up on all information available here on the forum before embarking on thrust washer adventure. Lots of good info discovered

Have a turbo crank that needed cleaning up on the thrust surface area of the crank. Unfortunately last rebuild with this crank had the integrated thrust washer and main bearing used in the build. Machinist had to remove .010 total material, .005 from each side. Machinist supplied over or under sized one piece integrated thrust washer main bearing as part of the service. ACL is the brand. Machinist stated that that was the only brand that he could find that sold a thicker integrated thrust and main bearing that would allow for proper clearance.

After reading the valuable information here on the forum, dissatisfaction quickly set in. The search for over or under sized (thicker) thrust washer set was on. Looked in the Mahle European Product Catalog. Found the following part number

029 AS 18668 025 - .25mm thicker

This can be purchased from lots of European websites. Did find one US website where this part could be purchased

http://realstreetperformance.com/

Couple of images attached to show the difference in thickness between standard and over or under sized thrust washer

Thrust washer removes all axial play. Highly recommend this to those who have to have the thrust area of the crank serviced to clean up damage.

Hope this experience is of help to others
