There is an Audi trans that has both  patterns, without that, no.

Isn't Quantum longitudinal and your Jetta's are transverse, so I would say no.

an audi 2.0L 5 cylinder diesel, or Volvo 6 cylinder diesel are the only engines that bolt up to a 5 cyl trans..

86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Isn't Quantum longitudinal and your Jetta's are transverse, so I would say no.

That has nothing to do with the engine bolting to the trany.

I would be nice if they made an adapter kit so we could easily build a quantum syncro wagon with a 1.6 TD.  ;D

the 86-89 quattro trannies had both patterns i do believe..

Audi TD5 engines are not hard to find, and are tougher than a 1.6...

but are the parts as easy to get as a 1.6? this thing is 600 bucks and a 5 speed already so if what you say is true this would be a pretty darn easy swap.

a TD5 is just a 1.6D with an extra cylinder..

the manifolds, gaskets, crank, cam, pump, and stuff like that are the only things that are SPECIFIC to the TD5..

the internals are all identical to 1.6s, but with one more.. injectors are the same, but with an extra one.

you can also use lots of gasser 5 cylinder stuff on these engines as well.. (timing belt, water pump, seals, that sort of thing)

Per cylinder it is, but with more displacement, you do better at low  RPMs, and there is no balance shaft.

The posting for this car says "runs drives needs a headgasket" To me that doesn't make any sense. I've never done a headgasket before is it something i could do on the spot with a bag o tools? so i could drive it rather than trailer it or have it shipped?

86-89 are not dual bolt pattern...If that were the case I would have already put my AHU into my 87 4000CS quattro

....And if Audi TD5's aren't hard to find, how come I can't seem to find a head for mine?

I had a head gasket blow on my diesel swap in four different places.  Ran and drove great....for about fifteen minutes.  they can run but the heat gets into the coolant, and the temp needle just goes up up up.

How tough would it be to find a quatro trans for it?
