65 MPG BAE Turbo Diesel Rabbit
« on: March 18, 2010, 04:42:34 pm »
I was digging through my collection of VW material and came across this. Figured I would share. The second article reminds me of a recent TV show where they took an old Rabbit and tried to get better mileage by dropping in a TDI. Enjoy.

It does not appear that they made any boost-dependent fueling compensation, so your increase in power will be limited. They also talk about 7-9 pounds of boost pressure; that's under stock 1.6TD levels.

Ahhhhh....this was just about the time I bought my first Wabbit.
How I long for simplier times.
Now, this mpg figure was calculated on their local loop and NOT on the trip....right?????
Because I struggle to buy the mileage figure they quoted (as far as real world traveling) (especially considering the trip west of Denver).
However, the highest mileage I ever did (consistently) achieve was in that first '78 1500 I had.
The car died when my wife ran it into a concrete wall (yes, I DID divorace her!!!!!).
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

So was the 10 gallon aux fuel tank an option? And the digital clock on the shifter?

1200 bucks for the BAE turbo kit!!!!!
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
