Monster AAZ Build
« on: October 03, 2009, 05:42:32 pm »
Alright so I'm building an AAZ that needs to be reliable but I also want to be able to run the 1/4 in 13's. Here is what I've got planned so far.

complete AAZ overhaul,
K26/24 Hybrid
Giles Pump
Borred out to .5mm Over
Stage 3 Clutch
Intercooler
2.5" turbo back exhaust

I'm looking for 200 ish HP, and much more torque, I want over 300ftlbs of Torque. I do plan on looking at a Nitrous System, maybe a 50 or 75 Shot to be injected at WOT. Only for 1/4 mile racing

What else am I over looking at this?

You may want to get some upgraded rods and possibly a crank girdle. Definitely an aggressive exhaust porting. I would go 3" exhaust rather than 2.5".

I do have one extra girdle already made up if you decide you need one.

well, a main bearing girdle, yes.

it needs to have the holes drilled, but there are dimples in the centers of where they should go, so you dont have to worry about drilling in the wrong place.
and it needs the slag cleaned off it(really simple with a wire wheel/grinder)

and you will need to come up with spacers to go between the girdle and the main bearing caps, but that should be easy/cheap for your local machine shop to do.

all the expensive/hard work is done.
you could have it for $70 plus shipping(a real steal compared to the $400 they cost commercially)
the $70 covers what I paid the machine shop to make it, plus ten ish dollars for my trouble(the machine shop needed constant hounding for over a month to get them to spit these out)

just let me know if you are interested!

So its for strenghing up the Bottom end of the motor? I may be interested in it, I will def keep it in mind.

Any ideas what kind of connecting rods i'm going to need? I heard rumours that VW's have forged internals? I know the ABA had forged Rods and Pistons

I never did any of the rods or the girdle on my AAZ, but then 300 HP was not a goal. I used late rods and ARP studs/bolts throughout. Better rods are the later Pumpe Duse rods from a TDI. Do the head porting for sure. It made mine breathe a lot better. Also a PD 140 or PD 150 intake manifold flows a lot better. Get an air/oil oil cooler in place of the water/oil one. 3" is overkill for these engines on the exhaust.

Well I'm Aiming for around 150 to 200HP, and over 300ftlbs of torque before Spray.... ;D .... The Motor I'm rebuilding is a 97 AAZ. So TDI Rods will fit in the AAZ? and For the intake I'm planing on making a custom Intake, and Exhaust Collector to the turbo,

Sounds like a bear. Yes, the PD rods will fit the AAZ.

Where would I be able to pick up a set of those?

I think the dealer would be the only source, but you could try a want ad in the classified section.

No I hadn't read that, but now I did. What would you suggest for a turbo?

Actually, be careful.  I don't think PD rods will fit.  They have bigger "big ends".  The 1Z, AHU, and ALH rods may be fine though.
