Tdi ARP studs (futur sticky?)
« on: June 05, 2009, 02:50:18 pm »
Ok... I have been reading a lot with the search function and there is sooo much contradictory information or mixted up information. Also the idi parts# are mixted up... or maybe they are the same #. Ok so here are all the question one could ask about the TDI ARP STUDS.

Please answer clearly, so we can make that topic a Sticky afterwards!

1) What is the part #?

2) Is it the same as the idi?

3) The torque pattern is provided with the studs or it should be something more specific?

4) Where to buy them? Ebay?

5) What cost should I expect to pay?

6) Any experience you would like to share about studs??? (like torque specs, durability, etc)

I'm also interested in this information.

For my Polo 6N M-TDI with 2.5TDI pistons I would like to use the ARP bolts and nuts.

I have some info That may help.

1)Part # 2514701 (They are Ford Cosworth studs, but are the same spec for the TDI)
2)I don't know if its the same for an IDI, but if you google ARP and call they may be able to tell you.
3)I used the VW torque sequence ( I don't know if its the same as the ARP sequence )
4)You can order them through most parts stores.( I bought mine through Lordco parts)
5)I paid around $300.00
6)Final torque depends on the lubricant you are using. If you use ARP molly lube final torque is 80 ft/lbs.
If you use 30w engine oil final torque is 120 ft/lbs.

Clean the threads in your block realy well, then put a light film of lube on the studs. Thread the studs into the block hand tight. Slide new head gasket and head on to block. Lube the studs, washers and nuts and torque to 30 lbs in sequence, then 60 lbs, 90 lbs, final torque 120ft/lbs(with 30w oil).30,50 final 80ft/lbs(with molly lube).

Even with ARP studs I wouldn't run the boost past 35 psi. I blew my head gasket at 40 psi.
I am using a twin turbo set up, so at 40 psi there quite a bit more air being pushed through than a sing turbo set up, so you may be able to get away with 40 psi ???

Hey guys if you need those studs up north I can hook you up for a hell of a lot better price than $300.

I think last I checked I can sell them for 145 USD plus shipping.

Contact me for hard to find for idi and tdi parts

I thought the vw idi and tdi were dry assembled so the torque specs wouldn't be thrown out.

search out the tdiclub as there has been some discussion as to whether the studs are an improvement on the TDI. A few members have had issues. This is coming from a person that has used APR studs on a number of gassers but I've also used stock bolts without issues on a number of higher then stock cars too ;)
