injection pump cover leaking 98 AHU engine
« on: January 24, 2011, 05:41:19 pm »
the cover on the top of the injection pump of my 98 jetta is leaking. anyone ever taken the top off of one? do springs and things go flying  when the cover is removed? need to fix it ASAP. looks like there's 4 small allen heads holding it on. where can I get the seal?

thanks...

IIRC it is nearly identical to the 1.6 and 1.9 idi pumps in there.. with the lack of a throttle shaft going through it? I think i read this somewhere, somebody else needs to chime in though. lol

Seems as though removing the pump cap/lid/cover will not cause you to loose any of your calibrations.

thanks for that ID parts link bro. ;D I've spoken with the owner of that site he probably knows what's involved in changing that seal. I'm pretty sure that when you remove it you have to reinstall it in the exact same position that it was in before it's removed or it will affect the timing.

dead easy to do just take out the 4 bolts lift off cover remove seal , fit new seal and when refiting the cover you got to get the botom of the E lever back on the control spool .

I don't believe its pump timing, but It does effect one of the settings though, maybe quantity adjustment iirc.

There is two tops to a TDI pump. the tippy top cover is easy to do. The next one down is just as easy but garrantied you'll need to do the "hammer mod " to readjust the quantity. You'll also need VagCom to do that as well. IIRC, taping to the drivers side increases and taping to the passengers side decreases quantity. Its been a while sence my last one, so it could be the other way.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I tried doing that once when i was having some strange no power issues. I didn't notice a difference, even though it showed a small difference in fuel quantity in one of the measuring blocks.
